Phil Lyddon
I have been making pots in Brighton since the early
1970s and work from a studio next to my house. I have
always been interested in the idea of the miniature
and concentrate mainly on small-scale works, bowls
and vases. I aim to make graceful forms with restrained
surface decoration. I often distort the piece after
throwing to add an element
of asymmetry - a signature of my work. I use a wide
range of glazes: turquoise, a speckled cobalt blue,
celadon, yellow, ash white and a semi-matt white
which I stain with tea to emphasise the crazing. Over
the years I have featured in many exhibitions, and I
currently sell my work in galleries in Brighton and
throughout the UK
